Job Duties
Senior Engineers, Applications Engineers for Westmont, IL location. Assist customers in their use of our software to design and simulate electric motors, including electromagnetic design, mechanical structural analysis, thermal analysis and Noise Vibration & Harshness (NVH) analysis. Use customer feedback and interaction to design and test new product features related to electric motors. Carry out proof-of-concept projects to demonstrate cutting edge software solutions to prospective customers working on general electric motors, traction motors, and electric drive units. Interact with established and emerging automotive companies through training classes, conferences, and marketing events. Provide technical support throughout the sales cycle when discussions require a depth of technical knowledge in assigned application areas. Help evangelize the critical role Gamma Technologies plays in helping automotive companies on the Road to Zero Carbon. Technical environment: automotive OEMs with intermittent involvement in electric motor design and analysis; CAE simulation tools, including: Component-level design & analysis (ANSYS SpaceClaim, MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell, ANSYS Mechanical), System-level simulation (Simulink, Siemens AMESim); scientific programming languages: MATLAB, Python; basic motor types (PMSM, IPM, SPM, IM); motor and drive systems of Electric or Hybrid Electric Vehicle (EV or HEV); electric motor cooling architectures and thermal simulation for both steady-state and transient analysis; linear and non-linear structural analysis, including fatigue assessment; NVH analysis of electric powertrains; modeling or analysis tools of electrical motors & drives; reading and interpreting 2D drawings, creating 2D DXF and 3D CAD models of motor components, with knowledge of tolerancing and GD&T; component manufacturing techniques and assembly process of different E-Motor topologies.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 3 years of experience in automotive engineering required. Required skills: automotive OEMs with intermittent involvement in electric motor design and analysis; CAE simulation tools, including: Component-level design & analysis: (ANSYS SpaceClaim, MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell, ANSYS Mechanical), System-level simulation: (Simulink, Siemens AMESim); scientific programming languages: MATLAB, Python; Knowledge of basic motor types (PMSM, IPM, SPM, IM); motor and drive systems of Electric or Hybrid Electric Vehicle (EV or HEV); electric motor cooling architectures and thermal simulation for both steady-state and transient analysis; linear and non-linear structural analysis, including fatigue assessment; NVH analysis of electric powertrains; modeling or analysis tools of electrical motors & drives; reading and interpreting 2D drawings, creating 2D DXF and 3D CAD models of motor components, with knowledge of tolerancing and GD&T; component manufacturing techniques and assembly process of different E-Motor topologies. Less than 5% travel to attend industry conferences and company sponsored trade shows required. Some telecommuting permitted.
